Chulalongkorn University offers a wide range of learning programs and training initiatives across various fields and disciplines, tailored to the interests of its staff. These programs are designed to foster a culture of continuous learning and enhance skills and expertise to keep pace with the rapidly changing world. Courses cover both practical work skills, like the Learn@Home program, and job-specific knowledge through HR e-Learning. To meet the demands of today’s workforce, these programs are provided online, accessible to all staff through platforms like CHULA MOOC. Additionally, the university emphasizes five key skill areas, enabling targeted development across its workforce. Beyond professional training, Chulalongkorn University also offers quality-of-life programs, including courses on retirement preparation and financial planning for early-career staff. These initiatives underscore the university’s commitment to the holistic growth and well-being of its people, contributing to a resilient and adaptable community.

From July 15 to 19, 2024, at the 7th Floor Conference Room, Office of Academic Resources at Chulalongkorn University, and the Amari Hotel in Pattaya, Chonburi, the Office of Human Resources Management hosted the 29th Orientation Program for New Faculty Members and Researchers. This program aimed to ensure new faculty and researchers gained a clear understanding of the university’s strategic goals, roles, and best practices while fostering academic advancement with full support from the university. Sixty-four new faculty members and researchers participated in the program.

Professor Wilert Puriwat, D.Phil. (Oxon), Acting President, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in research initiatives. Participants also engaged in interactive sessions designed to promote networking and establish mentorship opportunities within the academic community.

n) The acting president presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote address titled “Spirit of Chula” on July 15 at the 7th Floor Conference Room, Office of Academic Resources. Other notable sessions included “21st Century Work Skills for Developing Chula Graduates” by Somkiat Tangkitvanich, Ph.D., President of the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI), and a session on building faculty networks by Professor Kanaphon Chanhom, Ph.D., Acting Vice President. The program also included team-building activities to strengthen collaboration among participants.

This orientation underscores Chulalongkorn University’s dedication to equipping its faculty and researchers with the knowledge, skills, and networks essential for academic excellence and innovation.

On August 5, 2024, the Office of Human Resources Management at Chulalongkorn University launched the 98th Orientation Program for New Operational Staff with the course CHULA Newcomers: Embodying the Chula Spirit. Held at the 7th Floor Conference Room, Office of Academic Resources, the program was inaugurated by Professor Wilert Puriwat, D.Phil. (Oxon), Acting President, who also delivered a keynote speech on “Future Skills and the University’s Path to Success.” Running from August 5 to 9, 2024, at both the university and The Tide Resort in Bangsaen, Chonburi, this orientation aimed to instill Chulalongkorn’s values, cultivate positive attitudes, and build competencies aligned with the university’s expectations. The course provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of Chulalongkorn University’s mission, essential foundational knowledge for their roles, and fostered strong relationships to encourage collaboration within the institution. By the program’s end, 90 new operational staff members had not only gained insights into their roles but also deepened their commitment to contributing meaningfully to the university’s mission. This initiative reflects Chulalongkorn’s dedication to supporting new employees in seamlessly integrating into the university community, ultimately driving success and unity across the university.

Beyond fostering learning, Chulalongkorn University places great emphasis on the health and well-being of its staff, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The university continues to offer Covid-19 booster vaccinations to personnel as part of its commitment to ongoing health protection. Additionally, Chulalongkorn promotes physical wellness through preventive care initiatives, encouraging staff to prioritize their health. Among these is the Chula Elegance program, which offers free sports and fitness courses, such as walking, running, tennis, golf, Zumba, yoga, and swimming. Staff can join these activities at no cost, with no need for personal equipment to participate. These programs not only safeguard health but also foster a supportive, active environment where staff can improve their physical well-being. This holistic approach underscores the university’s commitment to creating a vibrant, healthy campus community, empowering staff to perform at their best and contribute fully to the university’s mission.

The 44th Annual Chulalongkorn University Staff Sports Tournament took place from February 5 to March 8, 2024, featuring competitions across 21 sports. On March 8, the Chulalongkorn University Sports Complex and the Office of Human Resources Management hosted the tournament’s opening and closing ceremonies. The event included ceremonial torch lighting in front of the King Chulalongkorn and King Vajiravudh Memorial, presided over by Associate Professor Chaiyaporn Puprasert, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Development. A procession of torchbearers from various faculties and departments then carried the torch to the CU Sports Complex.

This year, staff from a range of faculties and departments participated in a parade themed “SDG3: Good Health and Well-Being,” with Professor Bundhit Eua-arporn, Ph.D., President of Chulalongkorn University, officially opening the games. Highlights included a cheerleading competition, six-color team sports matches, and awards for the best parade, team performances, cheerleaders, and signage bearers. Staff also enjoyed a shared meal at the Tuenchai Grounds, fostering camaraderie and unity. The 44th Staff Sports Tournament exemplifies Chulalongkorn University’s commitment to promoting health, teamwork, and community spirit among its staff, aligning with the university’s holistic approach to well-being and its commitment to sustainable development goals.

To enhance the lives of the Chulalongkorn University community by aligning with modern co-working and work-from-home trends, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank, has developed and designed the CU NEX Staff application. This app is equipped with various functions, linking essential knowledge resources and service tools directly to users’ mobile devices, providing a seamless digital experience. Available for download since May 18, 2020, this application enables the Chulalongkorn community to fully embrace digital living. The university continues to develop this application to further simplify and facilitate the work experience, ensuring convenience and efficiency for the Chulalongkorn community well into the future.

Chulalongkorn University is equally dedicated to environmental and ecological well-being, understanding that a healthy environment plays a key role in improving quality of life and enhancing staff productivity. To that end, the university and its community have joined forces to create green spaces in the heart of Bangkok, preserving the sustainable character of the Chamchuri Park. Notable initiatives include the CU Centenary Park, bicycle and electric scooter sharing, and the CU Shuttle Bus, a fleet of electric vehicles providing eco-friendly transportation for Chulalongkorn staff around campus.
