Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For treatment at a designated medical facility outside official hours, it is recommended to seek care at the emergency/accident department to avoid any expenses. However, if the insured person chooses to receive treatment at an after-hours clinic, they must bear the costs themselves.

The insured person must bear the additional costs exceeding the coverage set by the Social Security Office, and these expenses cannot be reimbursed, as the request for a private room is made voluntarily.

Insured persons are entitled to free cervical cancer screening under the annual health check-up program at the hospital specified on their entitlement card.

For the lump-sum maternity allowance, insured persons can claim the benefit if they submit the request within one year from the child’s birth date.

If an insured person has paid contributions for 12 months within a continuous 36-month period before childbirth, the Social Security Office will provide retroactive payments for the eligible months.

Insured persons will remain covered for six months after their insured status ends.

If an insured person works for multiple companies and remains employed at a previous company, they must inform the new employer by completing Form SSO 1-03 and specifying that they are employed by multiple employers. Failure to indicate this will result in the system automatically registering their resignation from the previous company without a recorded resignation date.

If an employee starts working for an employer at the age of 60 or older, they cannot register for social security and are therefore not eligible for non-work-related benefits. However, if they suffer a work-related illness or injury, they may claim benefits under the Workers' Compensation Fund.

After submitting a hospital change request, the insured person may access medical services at the new hospital based on the following conditions:

  • If the Social Security Office receives the request between the 1st and 15th of the month (before 4:30 PM on the 15th), the insured person can start using services at the new hospital from the 16th of that month.
  • If the Social Security Office receives the request between the 16th and the last working day of the month (before 4:30 PM on the last day), the insured person can start using services at the new hospital from the 1st of the following month.

Insured persons can change their designated medical facility through the Social Security Office’s website, the SSO Connect app, the Social Security Office's official Line account, or by submitting a request in person at any Social Security Office in Bangkok or other provinces. The required document is Form SSO 9-02.

Insured persons can check their hospital change status by calling the hotline at 1506, visiting the nearest Social Security Office in Bangkok or any province, or verifying the information directly via the Social Security Office website or the SSO Connect app.
