Royal decorations are insignia of honor and recognition bestowed by His Majesty the King as a reward for distinguished service to the nation, religion, and the people. They are conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional merit and contributions. Additionally, commemorative medals are awarded on various occasions as a mark of recognition, and certain medals may be worn in the same manner as royal decorations, as prescribed by official regulations.
Each year, government agencies propose candidates for royal decorations in honor of His Majesty the King’s birthday celebrations. The decorations conferred annually include:
If the parent agency determines that the study leave is beneficial to the government service, the nomination for a royal decoration can be submitted.
If the parent agency determines that the leave to accompany a spouse is beneficial to the government service or the country, the nomination for a royal decoration can be submitted.
According to the 1993 regulations and its amendments, civil servants requesting a royal decoration must have served continuously for at least five years. Therefore, in this case, the period of military service cannot be counted toward the required service duration.
Not eligible, as the individual does not hold civil servant status on the date of the Royal Birthday Ceremony.
The unit that benefits the most or receives the largest donation should be the one to submit the royal decoration request (Section 23, Paragraph 2 of the Royal Decree B.E. 2538).
Comply strictly with the Royal Decree on Requests for Royal Decorations and the Office of the Prime Minister’s Regulations on Certification Documents.

A land valuation certificate issued by a land officer must be provided. The certificate should indicate the value of the entire land donated, as of the date of registration of the transfer (according to Section 14(5) and Section 20(1)) to accompany the proposal for the royal decoration request.
The valuation of assets should be based on the market price of the asset at the time of the donation (according to Section 20(3)).
The asset records must be verified to confirm that the donation was actually made. Additionally, a copy of the income and expenditure statement, along with other supporting evidence showing how the donated funds were used for public benefit, should be submitted. The relevant pages of the asset records showing the receipt and use of the donated funds should be signed and certified by the abbot and the temple treasurer, with the temple's official seal, as part of the submission for requesting the royal decoration.
It cannot be done. However, actions should be carried out in accordance with Chapter 4 of the Royal Decree on the Request for Royal Decorations and the Schedule 2 at the end of the Royal Decree.
The individual's achievements must be summarized separately (for the person requesting the royal decoration), clearly stating how the work was carried out and what the outcomes were (Section 10(1)).
According to the Royal Decree on the Request for Royal Decorations, Section 14(3) stipulates that when there are multiple donors for a contribution, the details of each person's donation should be shown, specifying the value of their individual contribution. If such details are not provided, it will be assumed that each person contributed equally. Therefore, an individual cannot use the donation amount of another person to support a request for a royal decoration. However, an exception may be made in the case of a husband and wife making a joint donation, provided both are still alive and have given written consent. If one party has passed away, the surviving party cannot include the value of the deceased's donation in the request for a royal decoration.
The request for the Royal Decoration Medal
The Dusadee Mala and the Arts and Sciences Medal, under the regulation of the request for the medal (B.E. 2521), should take into account the merit of using art and science for the benefit of the nation. It is essential to consider whether the individual’s contributions are of such significance that they deserve the award of the Dusadee Mala and Arts and Sciences Medal. The recipient should feel proud of the medal received, and it should uphold the honor of those deserving.
