Leave and Overseas Assignments

Leave for University Employees

Types of Leave Entitlements for University Employees 

  1. Personal Leave – Employees are entitled to up to 10 working days of personal leave per year for essential personal matters. Each leave request must be at least half a working day. 
  2. Annual Leave – Employees who have completed one year of continuous service are entitled to a maximum of 10 working days of annual leave per year, with the ability to accumulate up to 20 working days. 
  3. Sick Leave – Employees may take up to 30 working days of sick leave per year. If sick leave exceeds 30 consecutive working days, a medical certificate must be provided. For sick leave between 31 to 60 working days, employees will receive 50% of their salary. If additional sick leave is required beyond 60 days, it will be unpaid. 
  4. Sterilization Leave – Employees undergoing sterilization procedures are entitled to leave for the duration specified in a medical certificate. 
  5. Maternity Leave – Employees may take up to 98 days of maternity leave per pregnancy, including holidays during the leave period. Employees will receive full salary for 45 days, and prenatal check-up leave is included. 
  6. Paternity and Postpartum Care Leave – Employees may take up to 15 days of leave per pregnancy to assist their spouse during childbirth, including prenatal check-up visits. 
  7. Religious Leave  
    1. Ordination Leave (for Male Employees) – Employees may take leave for ordination in Buddhism for a maximum of one Buddhist Lent period. Leave before and after the Lent period combined must not exceed 21 days. If ordination occurs outside the Lent period, the leave must not exceed 30 days. 
    2. Buddhist Nunhood Leave (for Female Employees) – Female employees may take up to 30 days of leave for Buddhist nunhood to observe religious precepts and practice meditation. 
    3. Hajj Pilgrimage Leave – Male Muslim employees may take up to 30 days of leave to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. 
    4. Employees must submit a leave request at least 30 days in advance. If circumstances prevent advance notice, an explanation must be provided. Approval is subject to the discretion of the department head. 
    5. Once approved, employees must commence ordination, nunhood, or pilgrimage within 10 days of the start of leave. They must return to work within 5 days of disrobing, completing nunhood, or returning to Thailand and must submit official documentation as proof.
  8. Military Training or Service Leave – Employees summoned for military training or service are entitled to up to 60 days of leave per year. The official summons must be presented to the department head immediately upon receipt. 
  9. Academic Enhancement Leave – Employees may take leave to further their academic knowledge in accordance with university regulations. 
  10. Study, Training, Observation, or Research Leave – Employees may take leave for education, training, study visits, or research in compliance with university regulations. 

Types of Leave Entitlements for Government Officials

Leave Entitlements for Government Officials 

  1. Sick Leave – Up to 60 working days per year. In cases of necessity, an additional 60 working days may be granted, totaling 120 working days per year. 
  2. Maternity Leave – Entitled to 90 days per pregnancy with full salary during leave. 
  3. Paternity Leave – Entitled to up to 15 consecutive working days to assist a spouse during childbirth. 
  4. Personal Leave – Up to 45 working days per year. Additional personal leave for childcare may be taken immediately after maternity leave, up to 150 working days. 
  5. Annual Leave –  
    1. Entitled to 10 working days per year. 
    2. Employees who have served less than 6 months are not entitled to annual leave in that year. 
    3. Employees with less than 10 years of service may accumulate up to 20 working days. 
    4. Employees with 10 years or more of service may accumulate up to 30 working days. 
  6. Ordination or Hajj Pilgrimage Leave – Up to 120 days, provided the employee has served for at least 12 months. 
  7. Military Service Leave – Granted as per official summons for conscription or military training. 
  8. Study, Training, Research, or Observation Leave – Granted for the duration of the program, with salary payments for up to 6 years, depending on the case. 
  9. Leave for Service in International Organizations – Granted based on government regulations, considered equivalent to full-time service, for up to 12 months. 
  10. Leave to Accompany a Spouse – Allowed for up to 2 years, with an extension of another 2 years if necessary, totaling 4 years. If exceeding 4 years, resignation is required. 
  11. Leave for Occupational Rehabilitation – Allowed as per the rehabilitation program’s duration, up to 12 months.

Guidelines for Official Overseas Assignments

An overseas assignment refers to official travel abroad for work-related purposes for a short duration (not exceeding 15 days) and is not considered as leave or part of any leave entitlement. International meetings include seminars, conferences under different titles, business negotiations, and other work-related activities. Additionally, intergovernmental and international organization meetings refer to those organized by international bodies or hosted by a government of any country with participation from representatives of at least two nations.
