Chulalongkorn University Sports Complex (CU Sport Complex)

The Chulalongkorn University Sports Complex (CU Sport Complex) offers a comprehensive range of sports facilities, equipment, and open spaces for both individual and group exercise at no cost. The complex includes multiple sports venues, such as Chulalongkorn Stadium, indoor sports facilities, tennis courts, a 25-meter swimming pool, a beach volleyball court, a golf putting green, and outdoor fitness areas. Additionally, special membership rates are available for the families of university staff.  

Facilities & Services The CU Sport Complex is responsible for the management of several sports facilities, including Chulalongkorn Stadium, Indoor Sports Facilities (Chalerm Ratchasuda Sports Complex, Indoor Sports Hall 1 & 2), Tennis Courts, 50-Meter Swimming Pool, 25-Meter Swimming Pool, Chantanayingyong Building, Jindarak Stadium

The complex supports physical education, competitive sports, and community engagement under the supervision of the Chulalongkorn University Sports Center Committee.

Sports Facilities and Venues

CU Sports Complex

The CU Sports Complex is a five-story sports facility equipped with various amenities, including badminton courts, a 50-meter swimming pool, a large fitness center, martial arts training areas, and a multi-purpose sports hall adaptable for various competitions. 

The complex was established to host the 38th Thailand University Games in January 2011, organized by Chulalongkorn University. It has served as a venue for badminton, basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, Thai fencing, and other sports competitions. The facilities on each floor include: 

 First Floor: Indoor Badminton Courts and CUSC Office 

1.Badminton Courts: Six courts with rubber flooring. 

Open: Monday–Friday, 07:00–21:00 | Saturday–Sunday, 09:00–18:00 (Closed on public holidays)

Pool dimensions: 25m x 50m, depth 2.5m, 10 lanes

Second Floor: Fitness Center and Aerobic Dance Room 

Equipped with modern exercise equipment, supervised by sports science professionals

Third Floor: Indoor Martial Arts Training Area 

Designed for martial arts training, including boxing, taekwondo, judo, karate, aikido, and fencing

Tennis Courts

The tennis courts are hardcourt surfaces with a total of 10 courts, all equipped with lighting for evening play. There is also a practice court (Knock Board) for training, along with a clubhouse for additional amenities.

Chulalongkorn University Stadium

Formerly known as Jarusathian Sports Stadium or “Jub Stadium,” this stadium is Thailand’s first FIFA-certified synthetic grass football field. It is located within Chulalongkorn University and serves as a large outdoor sports facility.

Key features of the stadium include:

  • Synthetic Grass Football Field: First in Thailand to be FIFA-certified.
  • Running Track: 8-lane synthetic rubber track, certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
  • Seating Capacity: Approximately 20,000 to 25,000 spectators can be accommodated in the surrounding grandstands.
  • Facilities: The stadium is equipped with high-standard lighting and various amenities, ensuring a high-quality experience for both athletes and spectators.
  • Additional Sports Facilities: Other sports fields and facilities are located nearby, offering a comprehensive sports complex.

This stadium was also the main venue for the 2011 Thailand University Games and serves as the home ground for the Chamchuri United Football Club.

Indoor Stadium 1

This multipurpose indoor sports arena spans 4,100 square meters and accommodates various sports such as badminton, volleyball, basketball, and sepaktakraw. To maximize the use of the space, in 2009, the Chulalongkorn Sports Center converted the area behind the stadium into a driving range and beach volleyball court. In 2011, the front landscape was transformed into a putting golf course, adding both functionality and aesthetic value to the surrounding area.

The facilities in Indoor Sports Stadium 1 include:

  • Badminton Courts: 4 courts with rubber flooring
  • Volleyball Courts: 2 courts with parquet wood flooring
  • Basketball Courts: 2 courts with rubber flooring
  • Sepaktakraw Courts: 2 courts with rubber flooring
  • Driving Range and Beach Volleyball Court (behind the stadium): 450 square meters of sand, which can be converted into a beach volleyball court
  • Putting Golf Course (in front of the stadium): A beautifully landscaped area serving both aesthetic and exercise purposes
  • Rock Climbing Wall: A 6-meter-high wall for rock climbing training and exercise

Indoor Stadium 2

This multipurpose gymnasium (formerly the Department of Physical Education) features parquet flooring and is used for special events, competitions, and sports training. Currently, it is set up with 10 table tennis tables. It is available for faculty, staff, students, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School students, and members.

25-Meter Swimming Pool (Outdoor)

The 25-meter swimming pool (Outdoor) measures 16×25 meters with a depth of 1.45 meters and has 6 lanes. It is available for members only. The shallow pool is ideal for beginners and those looking for a place to exercise for health. Additionally, the Chulalongkorn Sports Center offers swimming lessons for youth and interested individuals at the 25-meter pool.

Outdoor Fitness Area

Chantanayingyong Building

The Chanthanyingyong Building was constructed in 1965 to facilitate the preparation of various sports facilities for the 5th Asian Games in 1966. It was named “Chanthanyingyong Building” to honor and commemorate Luang Prawej Wutthuksaksa (Mr. Prawej Chanthanyingyong), former Director-General of the Department of Physical Education.

Jindarak Stadium (Ton Pho Stadium)

Jindaraks Stadium (Ton Pho Sports Stadium) in 1942, during the Asia-Pacific War, Rear Admiral Luang Supachalassai, former Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, relocated the Department of Physical Education to Wang Chantharakasem and the Central Physical Education School to Wat Bowornniwet School. After the war ended, Phra Maha Sewaek To Phra Jindaraks moved the Department of Physical Education’s headquarters back to Supachalassai Stadium.

The National Stadium was renovated, and more sports facilities were constructed within the area. Ton Pho Stadium became one of the National Stadiums, and in 1983, the name was changed to “Jindaraks Stadium” in honor of Phra Maha Sewaek To Phra Jindaraks (Jamlong Sawatdichuto), former Director-General of the Department of Physical Education.
